CSVANW Supports Passage of Tribal Resolution Recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Isleta Pueblo
Isleta Pueblo, NM — Last week, the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW), in partnership with Isleta Victim Services, proudly announced the passage of Tribal Resolution No. 2026-23, formally recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in Isleta Pueblo.
CSVANW and Isleta Victim Services had the honor of presenting the resolution to the Isleta Tribal Council, marking a powerful moment of collective commitment to supporting survivors and strengthening community response to sexual violence.
What made this moment especially meaningful was the presence of department leaders from across Tribal systems, each coming together with a shared intention to do better for survivors. Their collective commitment reflects a growing movement toward accountability, healing, and prevention within the community.
“The Pueblo stands in solidarity with all survivors of sexual violence,” said Governor Eugene Jiron. “We applaud the collaboration between the Coalition and the Victim Services Department to start these important conversations, and we thank Tribal Council for passing this important resolution.”
“This moment is a reminder of what is possible when we come together with intention,” said Tiffany Jiron (Pueblo of Isleta), Executive Director of CSVANW. “This work is not easy, but it is necessary. Today, we took an important step forward together.”
The passage of this resolution represents a significant step in affirming that survivors in Isleta Pueblo are seen, supported, and valued. It reinforces the importance of community-led efforts to address sexual violence and create safer environments for future generations.
