October is domestic violence awareness month. We know that running is healing. Movement is medicine. 4 out of 5 Native Women will experience violence in her life…this is not just a statistic; it is our mothers, sisters, and daughters. Our communities are experiencing an imbalance and we need space to heal so that we honor the beauty of her resiliency.

Our annual #IWillRunForThem event was established in 2016 as a way for the community to come together and dedicate a run to those affected by domestic and sexual violence. We hold space every October in conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month to promoting healing and wellness through running.

11th Annual I Will Run for Them 5K

October 2026

MORE INFORMATION COMING SOON!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and CSVANW is hosting our annual I Will Run for Them 5K Run awareness run to honor the resilience, strength and spirit of our Native relatives impacted by domestic violence. We create space to honor survivors, cycle-breakers and our relatives who we have lost to violence. We invite you to dedicate your run, jog, or walk to your loved ones affected by the imbalance violence creates.

  • 4 out of 5 Native Women will experience violence in her life…this is not just a statistic; it is our mothers, sisters, and daughters.
  • In addition, 43.8% of lesbian women and 61.1% of bisexual women have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner at some point in their lifetime.
  • And 26% of gay men and 37.3% of bisexual men have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
  • According to the 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey, they found that 47% of transgender people are sexually assaulted at some point in their lifetime.
  • In fact, 1 in 10 men experience sexual violence, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime with ‘IPV-related impact’ such as being concerned for their safety, PTSD symptoms, injury, or needing victim services.

Our communities are experiencing an imbalance and we need space to heal so that we honor the beauty of all our relatives and survivors’ resiliency.
