CSVANW Urges Community to Support Vigil Planned for the Lost of Eugena Armijillo

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – March 4, 2019 – The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVNW) calls on community to support vigil planned for Eugena Armijillo.

“We will miss Eugena. She was a very sweet & kind person, she was full of happiness, very loving, caring & giving,” says Eugena’s family.

New Mexico State University (NMSU) will hold a candlelight vigil for the passing of Eugena Armijillo on Monday, March 4, to remember one of their own. “We wanted to have this event because Eugena is one of the members of our NMSU family that wasn’t only here as a student, but also a professional,” Michael Ray, Director American Indian Program, NMSU.

“To all friends & family who got to know her cherish the memories. Thank you for all the prayers & remembering her and accepting her as family at NMSU…we loved her so much. She will be missed dearly. She was proud to be an Aggie,” Eugena’s family state.

“Eugena’s case has been largely ignored by media coverage,” says Deleana OtherBull, CSVANW Executive Director, “and it is important for our community to come together in these times to show our love and support to our relatives who have lost a loved one.”

Eugena received her Bachelor’s in Community Health and started working toward a Masters of Public Health, and as a professional, she worked at the NMSU Agriculture Science Center at Farmington as a health educator with the Comprehensive Partnership to Advancement Cancer Health Equity program. 

“We mourn the loss of our sister as we never think this will happen to one of our own at such a young age,” says Ray.

“She has made some wonderful memories. Cherish each other and never stop making memories,” says Eugena’s family.
