ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – December 17, 2020 – The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) partners with Red Planet Books and Comics, Indigenous owned bookstore, for the 6th Annual Little One Holiday Book Drive to get new books into New Mexico domestic violence shelters for little ones this holiday season.

CSVANW’s Annual Little One Holiday Book Drive benefits children and their families who spend the holidays in a shelter due to domestic violence. In the past CSVANW focused their efforts on Indigenous shelters, but this year, they will be donating new books to 23 New Mexico domestic violence shelters.

“We want to express our deep appreciation for the support domestic violence shelters provide families who are seeking safety during the holiday season,” says Angel Charley, CSVANW Executive Director. “We hope these books will provide a safe escape for little ones and help create a sense of normalcy, especially during COVID-19.”

This year, instead of CSVANW accepting donations to purchase books, donors may purchase books from Red Planet’s website HERE. Book purchases and donations for the Little One Holiday Book Drive will run through this holiday season.

“We are so honored to continue our partnership with the Coalition. With everything that has happened this year, we hope that the books we are able to send along give hope and joy for all the families effected this season,” says Lee Francis IV, Owner of Red Planet Comics & Books and CEO of Native Realities. “It is quite a privilege to have so many incredible partners supporting Native creatives, youth and families, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity!”

“The Coalition hopes that whether these books go directly to children, or are added to a shelter library,” adds Charley, “they awaken the love and supportive energy in which we are sending them.”

This is the sixth year the Coalition to Stop Violence has facilitated this donation drive in partnership with Red Planet Books and Comics. To learn more about the book drive visit www.csvanw.org.
