Albuquerque, NM – The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) is excited to announce a significant evolution in its annual gathering aimed at addressing violence within Native communities. Formerly known as the Tribal Leaders Summit, the conference will now be called the Breaking Cycles of Violence Conference. This rebranding reflects CSVANW’s steadfast commitment to recentering survivors and advocates, while reinforcing the organization’s core mission of breaking the intergenerational cycles of violence against Native women, children, and families.
The Breaking Cycles of Violence Conference will take place on March 26, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico. This event is a critical space where advocates, victims, tribal governments, and community leaders come together to discuss the ongoing epidemic of violence in tribal communities, as well as the systems of justice, response, and prevention that can help end the cycle of violence.
“For 30 years, CSVANW has worked alongside survivors, advocates, and Tribal leaders, tirelessly addressing the need for safety and justice for Native women,” said Tiffany Jiron, Executive Director of CSVANW. “The shift to the Breaking Cycles of Violence Conference is more than just a change in name—it’s a reaffirmation of our mission to focus on the voices that have long been silenced and marginalized in policy discussions. We are shifting the spotlight back onto survivors, on their needs, and on the healing that we all know is possible when Indigenous communities are supported and empowered to reclaim their safety and sovereignty.”
The conference will provide a platform for diverse voices, including survivors, advocates, law enforcement, and governmental representatives. It will offer a space to discuss innovative and culturally grounded strategies to address violence, emphasizing the importance of effective laws, policies, and the strengthening of relationships between Tribal, state, and federal agencies.
Tiffany Jiron further explained, “The Breaking Cycles of Violence Conference underscores the critical need for collaboration between Tribal, state, and federal governments to ensure that the voices of those most impacted are not only heard but listened to. We know that when we center the needs of survivors, when we provide them with culturally relevant resources and policies that support their healing, we can break the cycles of violence that have persisted in our communities for far too long.”
CSVANW is proud to continue its work with Tribal leaders, communities, and key stakeholders across New Mexico and beyond, ensuring that these conversations are part of the necessary larger movement toward ending violence. The Breaking Cycles of Violence Conference aims to take significant steps toward long-term change by advocating for stronger protections, improved resources, and effective partnerships in addressing the systemic issues that contribute to violence in Native communities.
“We cannot underestimate the power of this shift. By re-centering survivors and advocates, we acknowledge the resilience and strength of Native communities,” said Jiron. “This is a moment for us to bring forth solutions, hope, and healing, together as a unified front. We’re not just breaking cycles of violence—we’re creating new cycles of safety, justice, and well-being.”
