My name is Lucita Benally. I am enrolled member of the Navajo Nation. I worked in the field of domestic violence for over 20 years. My advocacy journey began with the Home for Women and Children domestic violence shelter in Shiprock, NM as a child advocate. Working with children has always been a passion. It made a difference in my life by providing hope and security to the families. I am currently working at Family Crisis Center domestic violence shelter in Farmington, NM. As a shelter advocate, it is my responsibility to support and empower individuals and families who are affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.

Advocacy means giving support, guidance, providing resources to survivors and empowering them to regain their sense of safety and have a healthy future for themselves and their families. I am compassionate and respectful of clients’ experiences, opinions, language, values, and culture without non-judgmental.

I will continue to advocate for those that are affected by domestic violence by highlighting the need for better resources for prevention and intervention.
