Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women Announces New Executive Director

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – March 27, 2020 – The Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) is pleased to announce the selection of Angel Charley as their visionary Executive Director. The extensive national search led by a hiring committee comprised of Coalition members, Board of Directors and staff was guided by a strong dedication to furthering the mission and vision of the organization.

CSVANW looks forward to Charley’s vision of building and strengthening social, political, and economic environments in which violence against Native women and children no longer exists. Charley brings a record of accomplishment in leading complex organizational and corporate transitions and four years of experience of working alongside CSVANW members and partners.

“We believe in Angel’s thoughtful and compassionate leadership to continue to move the Coalition beyond transition and into growth,” says Kim McGinnis, Esq. PhD., CSVANW Chairperson. “Last year, our members appointed her Interim Executive Director because we knew that she had the skills and values to move the Coalition closer to our vision of building healthy families and communities. She exceeded what we hoped could be accomplished as Interim Director, and we are thrilled to make this appointment permanent.”

Under Charley’s dedicated leadership as interim, CSVANW built on its long history as a trusted resource for tribal leaders and communities, developed new relationships, and strengthened existing relationships with partners, supporters and members.

“The movement to stop violence against Native women and children has been my life’s journey,” says Charley, “I started with CSVANW three years ago as the Office Coordinator. And from my first day with the Coalition I have sought growth and improvement for our organization and am honored to continue to have the trust of our members to continue this journey.”

CSVANW anticipates Charley will leverage upon CSVANW’s extraordinary past and will harness the full power of the staff and coalition members to advance CSVANW’s thought leadership and reframe the mission and vision of the organization.
