CSVANW to Postpone 7^th Annual Tribal Leaders Summit Due to Concerns Over Ongoing Coronavirus Outbreak                                                                                                           

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – March 11, 2020 – As news continues to develop on the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country, the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Native Women (CSVANW) is postponing the 7^th Annual Tribal Leaders Summit to a later date.

“After close consultation with our board of directors and staff and feedback from our members, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Tribal Leaders Summit for the safety of our relatives and communities,” says Kim Benally, CSVANW Co-Executive Director.

Today, Governor Michelle Lujan-Grisham declared a public health emergency and encouraged New Mexicans to avoid large gatherings and limit travel. Grisham’s announcement also confirmed that State Governmental Agencies will be canceling large events. The Tribal Leaders Summit was set to happen on April 1 and 2, 2020 at the Santa Ana Star Hotel & Casino in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM.

“We understand this change may cause great inconvenience for registrants and we are sincerely sorry,” Benally said. “We encourage our community to protect yourselves by practicing good hygiene, washing your hands, covering your cough and sneezes with tissue or upper sleeves, and following recommendations as issued by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and look for update information at the New Mexico Department of Health and other reputable sources.”

CSVANW fully intends to host the Tribal Leaders Summit at a later date. Details on future dates are in the works and that information will be shared as soon as they are available.
