Update

The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Task Force gathered for a working session on Thursday, January 16^th, 2020 at the Amerind Risk Management Facility in Santa Ana Pueblo. This session focused on developing clear goals and objectives, finalizing the scope of the final report and formalizing a data gathering plan. The task force also established subcommittees that will focus on building partnerships with, and gathering data from survivors and family members, tribal governments, service providers, advocates, law enforcement, as well as federal agencies and experts. The working session culminated in a conversation with the Native American Budget Policy Institute, National Tribal Geographic Information Support Center, and Department of Information Technology regarding data collection strategies and mapping technology.

Next Steps

The Task Force will hold a public meeting on Friday, February 21^st in or around the Albuquerque area (exact location is TBD). This meeting will provide the public with an update on current activities and give the public an opportunity to provide input.

Get Involved   

The task force is also looking to work in partnership with victim services professionals, advocates, prevention specialists, and grassroots-led efforts to better understand the scope of the MMIW crisis, identify barriers to addressing the crisis, and develop recommendations. Partners will participate in future task force working sessions to provide additional expertise, and assist with data gathering activities to help with meeting the goals identified in the legislation and drafting the final report.
