We had approximately 300 hundred participants dedicate their run, jog or walk to victims and survivors of domestic violence at our 4th Annual #IWillRunForHer 5k on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at the Southwest Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI). Our annual #IWillRunForHer 5k is held every October in conjunction with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month to promote healing and wellness through running, and to further raise awareness about domestic violence affecting tribal communities.

This year, we held our first #IWillRunForHer Virtual Run on social media. The Virtual Run is for participants who couldn’t attend in person on the day of the event but they were still able to dedicate their run, jog or walk to those affected by domestic violence in their families and communities. “We believe in access and inclusion, we want our communities to participate wherever they are,” Angel Charley, CSVANW Interim Executive Director, says. “The purpose of this virtual run is to stand in solidarity wherever you are.”

For this blog, we gathered some photos to create an illustrative narrative of how beautifully our #IWillRunForHer 5k went.Warm ups with Running Medicine. Our guest speakers included Lynn Trujillo, Indian Affairs Department Cabinet Secretary, and Ryan Martin, a twenty year US Navy veteran and the founder of Nashashi Strength and Conditioning.Along the running trail we had signs up with quotes that were submitted by participants when they registered. Participants answered the question: “Who are you dedicating your run to and why?” We also, included them into this blog for ya’ll to see them.Congratulations to our top runners! Top male finishers: Davin Cheykaych, William Gundrum, Michael Platero. Top female finishers: Tiffany Jirom, Clarissa Salt, and Meadow.THANK YOU to all our relatives for coming out to our 4th Annual #IWillRunForHer 5k!
