Last year, in New Mexico, only 11 of our tribal leaders or their representatives attended tribal consultation. Now more than ever, tribal consultation is a critical collaboration and coordination process that guides our federal government partners to engage in nation to nation discussions between tribal leaders and federal officials on how to identify, consider, and address issues or concerns around the movement to end violence against Native women.

Meaningful consultation is of principal importance in developing legislation and policies that are inclusive of tribal representation and input. To create and sustain meaningful informed consultation, CSVANW puts forward recommendations for our tribal leaders to utilize that can support broad level policies, strategies and systems to advance the well-being of Native women and children.

Let’s work together to make sure our tribes and Pueblos are represented at the table!

Who can provide testimony?

1. Tribally-elected leaders and/or appointed leaders
2. Individuals who have provided an official letter from a tribally-elected and/or appointed leader to present on their behalf; followed by,
3. A listening session to be held for other leaders from within Indian Country who represent American Indians and Alaska Natives.
